39th President of the United States
January 20, 1977 – January 20, 1981
The Presidency of Jimmy Carter was the first one I remember paying attention to closely. I had always been interested in politics growing up, and remembered watching the Watergate hearings on TV, watching Nixon resign and Ford pardon him, and the rise of the Peanut Farmer from Georgia named Jimmy. I took an interest and even rooted for him to win in the 1976 election, and when he did, I was really happy.
Before the end of his one and only term, I had become a Republican and was pulling for Ronald Reagan to win, which he did. But Jimmy Carter will always be a good man in my mind. He has done so much since he left the White House, he has my admiration and respect.
